New restaurant is coming to west Macon. It’s a spin-off of a popular spot across town

The Resendiz family is opening a sister location to their popular Mexican restaurant in Macon designed to offer up the same great food but at a faster pace.

Guitarras Mexican Grill Express is going into the former Graffiti’s Pizza spot at 5577 Thomaston Road, Suite 500, in the Publix at Lake Tobesofkee shopping center.

Luis Resendiz and his brother and three sisters will operate the restaurant. All have worked alongside their parents at Guitarras Mexican Grill and Bar at 157 Tom Hill Sr. Blvd. in north Macon, which their parents opened in 2016.

“We couldn’t do this without our parents,” Resendiz said.

In 2019, the family added a food truck, Guitarras On The Way.

What to expect

The new spot is expected to serve the same food as the first restaurant but not all of the dishes such as the Molcajete, which takes longer to prepare than other entrees, Resendiz said.

Instead of servers coming to the table, customers will be able to order at the front of restaurant, and then their food will be brought to them. Takeout also will be available.

The restaurant will have a bar and a patio.

“You cannot serve Mexican food without beer and margaritas,” Resendiz said.

With the restaurant still going through the permitting process, an opening date has not been determined yet, he said.
