Larry Bush’s longtime tire business closed Friday, making way for new downtown apartments.

He announced the closing of Larry Bush’s Riverside Tire on the business website and in a video on its Facebook page.

“You may have seen in the media that a development group is building a major mixed use development in downtown Macon,” the statement reads. “This project has been approved and they have purchased my building.

“I have been in this industry for over 45 years in Middle Georgia. After much prayer and discussion, my wife, Jennie and I believe that the best decision for my family is for me to retire.”

Bush said he had “mixed emotions” about the decision.

Larry Bush’s Riverside Tire is located at Second and Plum Streets where Crescent Corners residential lofts are expected to be constructed.

To take care of existing customers, Bush said he’s entered into an agreement with the Grant family, who own and operate Grant’s Tire & Auto at 2800 Riverside Drive, to take over warranties on tires and repairs from his business.

“If you choose to go to Grant’s Tire & Auto, we have arranged for your vehicle database to be at their disposal so that you will have the most seamless transition possible,” Bush said in the announcement.

“Whether you have been my customer from day one or started doing business with us last week, I am extremely grateful for the relationships we have made and for the support you have shown to Larry Bush’s Riverside Tire.”

Noting that he’s thankful, honored and that it’s been a privilege serving his customers, Bush wished everyone all the best and “happy driving.”

Crescent Corners would feature about 230 apartments, a commercial gym and coffee shop.
