Gas prices drop for the ninth week in a row nationwide. Will the trend continue?
If you are noticing some extra change in your pocket after filling your tank, it’s because gas prices have actually been steadily dropping for several weeks.
“For the ninth week straight, gas prices have continued to fall,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
GasBuddy took a look at more than 150,000 gas stations across the country and found that over the last week, prices have fallen around 9.9 cents per gallon.
Over the last month, we have seen a decrease of 63.7 cents.
But, the prices around this time last year were much cheaper. De Haan said gas prices have increased 74.8 cents since 2021.
As of today, the national average is at $3.93 and Georgia’s average is $3.47, according to AAA.
However, it looks like the declining prices may not continue much longer.
“The streak is at great risk of being broken this week, with wholesale gasoline prices having bounced back up some 40 cents per gallon as oil prices have rebounded,” said De Haan. “That means the decline in average prices could wrap up soon, with some price increases possible as early as this week.”
