Fresh salmon anyone? New sushi restaurant opens in Macon but initially just for dinner

Macon’s first Rock N Roll Sushi quietly opened its doors last week, but only for dinner.

The new restaurant doesn’t have its alcohol license yet and needs additional staffing before it can fully open, co-owner Tim Prussia said.

The new spot at 5791 Zebulon Road, Suite D, is open daily from 5-9 p.m.

This is the third Rock N Roll Sushi location for Prussia, and his wife, Alisa.

The couple left their home and careers in California to start their first one at 794 Ga. 96 in the Bonaire community of Warner Robins in September 2020. They live near the restaurant.

They opened their second Rock N Roll Sushi at 3010 Watson Blvd. in Warner Robins in May 2021.

The Macon location is within a 10,000-square foot building owned by their Rock N Roll Sushi business partner, Eric Robison. He has several Rock N Roll Sushi locations in Georgia, including the three he’s in partnership with the Prussias in Middle Georgia.

Soft opening

Wednesday, the Prussias opened their Macon location to friends and family and to the general public the next evening.

“I always equate it to having children,” Prussia said of opening the new restaurant. “When they’re a newborn you have to spend the most time with them and Macon is going to be our newborn for the next couple of weeks.

“Me and Alisa will be there a lot.”

Under their soft opening, seating is limited to about 35 people. Seating is expected to be expanded once they’re fully open.

Also, they’re not doing third-party delivery services or taking takeout orders by phone during the soft opening. Occasionally, there’s a wait list to stop in the restaurant and order takeout in person.

“The big goal with me and Eric has always been giving great guest experiences as opposed to ‘Hey, we’re open, everybody come on in,’ “ Prussia said. “We want to make sure we can give great experiences — to just build on that — until we are finally fully open and get going.”

Prussia said he’d love to give customers an estimate on when they’ll be able to open fully, but for right now, that’s just not known.

What to expect

Rock N Roll Sushi locations are known for their rock and roll scene and a mix of food offerings for the consummate sushi lover and for those who don’t care for sushi.

The restaurants feature lively lights and rock music videos on multiple screens with the music heard over a surround sound system.

The menus are within rock ‘n’ roll albums.

Many of the sushi rolls have rock ‘n’ roll names and the restaurant’s full bar, once they have their alcohol license, will serve specialty “rocktails,” along with other mixed drinks, beer and wine.

Meanwhile, the Sonny’s BBQ under construction at 5811 Zebulon Road across from Rock N Roll Sushi is expected to open late summer. Known for their slow-smoked BBQ, Sonny’s new 4,800 square foot restaurant is expected to seat 156 people.

Both Rock N Roll Sushi and Sonny’s BBQ are located in front of the Lofts at Zebulon.
