After more than 45 years in downtown Macon, this furniture store is closing its doors

A downtown furniture store that has served Macon for more than 45 years is having a “going out of business” sale.

Blair’s Discount Furniture, at 418 Third St., will be closing its doors after it finishes its sale.

The sale started on Friday, and all sales are final, according to signs posted on the windows of the store.

A spokesman for the company was not immediately available for comment.

The store initially closed Dec. 31, 2019 with the plan to reopen on Feb. 15, 2020 to sell remaining merchandise, according to a voice recording at the store’s phone number.

Without Blair’s Discount Furniture, there are only two other furniture stores in downtown Macon — Union Furniture Company and Bert Maxwell Furniture.

Bryan and Diana Blair opened the store in 1974 with the goal to supply quality furniture at competitive prices, according to the store’s website.
