Macy’s closing its location inside the Macon Mall. Here’s what’s left inside.

Macy’s announced it will be closing its store at the Macon Mall on Eisenhower Parkway.

The Macon store is among 15 stores the company is closing in early 2020. The store will be having a clearance sale that begins in January and will last 8-12 weeks, according to a news release.

Macy’s has been in Macon for more than 22 years. Two other regional locations — Macy’s Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia and Macy’s Southlake Mall in Morrow, Georgia — will remain open.

“In today’s retail space, we continuously review our brick-and-mortar locations, evaluate opportunities to maximize value and ensure the sustainable, long-term growth and success of our store business,” the company said in the release.

Non-seasonal employees will be eligible for severance including outplacement resources, according to the release.

After Macy’s closes, Burlington will be the last remaining department store in the Macon Mall, according to the mall’s website.

The Macon Mall opened in 1975 and was originally named Colonial Mall, a $25 million investment by Birmingham-based Colonial Trust Properties, according to Telegraph archives.

The east wing of the Macon Mall, which was part of a $50 million expansion in 1997, was demolished in 2010 when Hull Property Group bought the mall out of foreclosure. Sears, Belk, Dillard’s and J. C. Penney were all once at the Macon Mall and have since vacated.
