Piedmont Construction wins four first-place awards

Macon-based Piedmont Construction Group recently received four first-place awards in the 2017 Associated General Contractors Build Georgia Awards Program. The winning projects and the categories are:

▪  Clarke Central High School: award for Construction Management, Renovation; over $30 million contract amount

▪  Clayton State University/College Station Apartments: award for Design-Build, Renovation;

▪  Lofts @ Mercer Landing and Mercer University Pedestrian Bridge: award for Construction Management, New; over $20 million contract amount

▪  Lofts @ Silver and Piedmont Brewery: Construction Management, Renovation; under $5 million contract amount.

Perry receives national Main Street accreditation

Perry has been designated as an accredited Main Street America program for meeting rigorous performance standards set by the National Main Street Center.

During 2017, 828 Main Street America programs received national accreditation.

The organization’s performance is annually evaluated by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, which works in partnership with the National Main Street Center to identify the local programs that meet 10 performance standards. Evaluation criteria determine the communities that are building comprehensive and sustainable revitalization efforts and include standards such as fostering strong public-private partnerships, securing an operating budget, tracking programmatic progress and actively preserving historic buildings.

Main Street America is a program of the nonprofit National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and has been helping revitalize older and historic commercial districts for more than 35 years. It is a network of more than 1,000 neighborhoods and communities, rural and urban, who share a commitment to place and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development.

Fort Valley man elected president of state utility contractors group

Billy Crump, owner and CEO of LaKay Enterprises Inc. in Fort Valley, was recently elected as the 2017-2018 president of the Georgia Utility Contractors Association Inc.

Crump has been a member of the board for a number of years, and has served as director, first and second vice president and on several GUCA committees including community service, education/workforce development, finance and membership.

Founded in 1996, LaKay has grown into a 15-employee company from its beginnings of a one-backhoe, one-helper operation. The company has expanded to include all phases of construction from clearing to the final grassing to a complete turnkey project.

The utility association is a nonprofit state trade association representing more than 370 utility contractors and affiliated firms statewide. GUCA members provide the materials and workforce to build and maintain the state's network of water, sewer, gas, telecommunications and other utility systems.

Heart of Georgia Metal Crafters recognized by Lockheed Martin

Heart of Georgia Metal Crafters in Eastman was selected by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics based in Fort Worth, Texas, as a top performing supplier for 2016. It represents the top 2 percent of a supply base of 1,400 suppliers.

The award recognizes suppliers holding a 98 percent on-time delivery rating with a 98 percent quality rating. Lockheed said in a statement that the Eastman company ensures Lockheed’s ability to offer safety and security to its customers, and that being a leader in engineering, production and sustainment of aircraft, operational excellence and supplier performance were key tenants of its business model.

Perry AgGeorgia CFO graduates from banking school

Carrie McCall, chief financial officer of AgGeorgia Farm Credit in Perry for more than 10 years, recently graduated from the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking in Philadelphia. The Certified Public Accountant is a graduate of Presbyterian College and has a master’s degree from Mercer University.

AgGeorgia Farm Credit is an agricultural lending cooperative owned by more than 4,000 member-borrowers. It provides farm loans for land, equipment, livestock and production, rural home mortgages and services such as crop insurance and leasing. It is part of the national Farm Credit System.
