Fredericksburg has earned its reputation as one of Texas’ favorite girls’ getaway destinations. Just over an hour from San Antonio and about 90 minutes from Austin, this Hill Country town blends award-winning wineries, charming boutiques, German heritage and scenic drives into an easy weekend escape.

Things to Do in Fredericksburg:

Spend an afternoon wine tasting. Fredericksburg sits in the heart of Texas Wine Country, with dozens of wineries and tasting rooms nearby. Sip wine slushies at Fiesta Winery, enjoy vineyard views at 4.0 Cellars or reserve a tasting at Messina Hof.
Shop your way down Main Street. Browse locally owned boutiques for jewelry, home décor, clothing and artisan gifts between coffee and wine stops.

Come here when your group wants quality time more than a packed itinerary.

Browse Round Top’s shops and galleries. Wander Henkel Square and the surrounding boutiques for antiques, home décor, vintage treasures and one-of-a-kind finds. If you’re visiting during Round Top Antiques & Design Show season, plan to spend at least a full day exploring.
Book a glamping-style stay. Make the weekend feel like an elevated slumber party at Lone Star Glamp Inn, where vintage campers and safari tents create a fun, nostalgic setting for groups.

This is a destination best enjoyed over four or more days rather than a quick weekend.

Things to Do in Big Bend and Marfa

Embrace the road trip. The drives between Marfa, Big Bend, Alpine and Lajitas are part of the adventure, with sweeping desert vistas, mountain backdrops and plenty of memorable photo stops along the way.
Explore Big Bend National Park. Hike into Santa Elena Canyon, soak in the park’s historic Hot Springs, or simply enjoy one of the most scenic drives in Texas. Be sure to fuel up before entering the park-services are limited.
Experience Marfa’s renowned art scene. Spend an afternoon at the Chinati Foundation or visit the Judd Foundation to see the large-scale contemporary art installations that helped put Marfa on the cultural map.
Watch for the mysterious Marfa Lights. Head to the Marfa Lights Viewing Area after dark to see the unexplained glowing orbs that have fascinated visitors for generations.
Take the short hike into Closed Canyon. Located in Big Bend Ranch State Park, this narrow slot canyon offers one of Texas’ most unique hiking experiences. Wear sturdy shoes and avoid hiking if rain is in the forecast.

San Antonio combines history, culture and great food into one of Texas’ easiest girls’ weekend destinations. Center your stay along the River Walk, where restaurants, bars and attractions are all within walking distance. Between river cruises, historic landmarks and some of the state’s best tacos, it’s easy to fill a weekend without ever moving your car.

Things to Do in San Antonio

Explore the San Antonio Missions. The city’s four UNESCO-listed Spanish colonial missions offer a fascinating look at Texas history and are connected by a scenic hike-and-bike trail if your group wants to venture beyond downtown.
Take a River Walk boat cruise. It may be the city’s signature tourist attraction, but it’s also one of the best ways to get your bearings and learn a little San Antonio history while soaking up the atmosphere.
Visit the Alamo. You can’t come to San Antonio without seeing Texas’ most famous historic site. Reserve a timed entry if you’re visiting during busy travel seasons.
