Marriott Cancun All-Inclusive Resort: The Family All-Inclusive That Even Tweens Will Love
Cancun’s Hotel Zone is lined with endless all-inclusive resorts, but not all of them know how to excite picky tween travelers. As eight-year residents of Mexico and no strangers to Cancun, my 12-year-old son and I have seen our fair share and can agree that the Marriott Cancun All-Inclusive Resort redefines the family all-inclusive, even for the youngest (and most difficult) critics.
In this Marriott Cancun review, discover exactly why this resort belongs at the top of your list!
Highlights
- Tween-Approved Activities: How does a 12-year-old fare at a kids’ club designed for ages up to 12? My son put the CAMP Club to the test alongside a variety of resort activities designed for the whole family.
- Dining for Every Appetite: With over 12 international dining concepts, the Marriott Cancun has something for even the pickiest palates, food allergies included.
- Built for All Ages (including Mom!): Featuring a waterpark, lazy river, multiple pools and oceanfront dinners for the adults, here’s why everyone leaves happy.

Tween-Approved Accommodations at the Marriott Cancun
Our Room Experience
- The Welcome: Picture arriving at your room to find fresh white linens, snacks and refreshments awaiting you.
- The View: You pull back the curtains to find a balcony with a view of the sparkling turquoise waters beyond.
- The Atmosphere: As you open the sliding glass doors, the ocean breeze hits you, and you hear the sound of crashing waves. That was our experience.
- The Comfort: Our comfy ocean view room had soft, cozy beds that were easy to sink into after a long day.
- The Bathroom Setup: The bathroom was spacious, with a stand-up shower. Be aware that the bathroom door slides closed and there is no door to the shower stall. Wet floors are almost guaranteed!
What You'll Love
- Snacks & Drinks: Snacks and a mini-fridge stocked with soft drinks and beers for the adults.
- H2O 24/7: Plenty of bottled water available for staying hydrated 24/7.
- Tween-Approved Dining: 24-hour room service for growing tweens who are always hungry.
- The Comforts of Home: Robes and slippers, along with plenty of towels and toiletries.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Close the balcony door when you come in or leave. Because of the humidity, condensation quickly forms, turning the tile floor into what feels like an ice rink!
Tween-Approved Amenities at the Marriott Cancun
The Marriott Cancun delivers on family-friendly amenities and experiences for all ages, but tweens especially will find plenty to love:
Waterpark and Splash Pad
- The Best Part: "How is it that the little kids' pool is the most fun part of the pool area?" said my son, as we wiped our faces after the 4th time of getting water dumped on us from the large water bucket at the splash pad.
- The Splash Factor: With buckets and streams of water spraying at and pouring on you from every angle, there is absolutely no chance of staying dry.
- The Lazy River: The lazy river took us on a ride around the splash pad and waterslide area.
- The Waterslides: Meanwhile, the two waterslides offer kids and adults alike a fun, fast ride, with just the right amount of speed to please adrenaline seekers (especially the covered blue slide)!
What You'll Love
- Comfort for Families: Additional shaded seating for families with younger children.
- Safe Splashing: Shallow water only in the splash pad area.
- Supervised Fun: Supervised waterpark area with a lazy river and two water slides.
SheBuysTravel Tip: If you're also traveling with younger children and prefer a quieter, more relaxed time at the splash pad, I recommend visiting before 11am when the waterslides are closed, and there is no dumping or shooting water.
The Pool Scene at Marriott Cancun
- Pools for Everyone:Marriott Cancun has multiple pools to accommodate every traveler: a main family pool with a swim-up bar, a children's splash pad and an adult infinity pool with a swim-up bar.
- Room to Play: The main pool is large enough for everyone to spread out and for children to play.
- No Chair Stress: We never struggled to find chairs with umbrellas and never had to rush down at dawn to reserve a space.
- Tween-Approved Whirlpool: Guests must be at least 12 years old to use the whirlpool, giving tweens the opportunity to enjoy it, too (it was one of my son's favorite parts of the pool).
- Fast Service: The wait at the pool bar for a refreshment or cocktail is never long, and there are plenty of seats.
What You'll Love
- Smart Layout: Spacious pool with a separate adult pool area.
- Room to Relax: Whirlpool with enough space for multiple guests.
- In-Water Comfort: Ample built-in pool seating.
- No Rush for Lounge Spots: Plenty of beach chairs and cabanas for everyone.
- Efficient Sips: Long pool bar with seating and fast-moving staff.
SheBuysTravel Tip: If you're traveling alone with your tween or a small family, the pool cabanas facing the ocean are totally worth reserving. It gave us ample time to rest and relax on comfy beds in the shade, with all the activities right behind us.
The CAMP Club Experience
- A Rare Win: Out of all the resorts and restaurants in Mexico we have visited with designated kids clubs or zones that accommodate kids up to 12 (or older), my son has never been impressed or wanted to spend much time inside. However, this 5,000-square-foot indoor-and-outdoor CAMP club is a different story.
- Non-Stop Fun: From slime-making and tie-dye to dance lessons, a splatter-paint room and a theater for performances, the fun and engaging activities never stop.
- Music & Reading: There is also a sound cabin for future musicians, and books for those who want to relax and get some reading in.
- Fun for All Ages: While exploring with my son, I can honestly say it even brought out the child in me. This kids’ club rightfully caters to the full age range and then some!
- The Ultimate Perk: And the best part? Absolutely NO screens!
What You'll Love
- The Welcoming Vibe: Super friendly and playful staff who warmly welcome you with smiles.
- Unplugged Play: Screen-free environment.
- Room to Roam: Plenty of space to move around, play and explore activities.
- Something for Everyone: Age-appropriate activities for all age levels.
- Outdoor Adventure: Spacious outdoor area with playground, zipline and rock climbing wall.
Tween-Approved Activities at the Marriott Cancun
When traveling with a tween, you want a variety of age-appropriate activities that give them the full vacation experience without the risk of hearing "I'm bored."
As the mom of a son who is quick to fill his boredom with screens, finding a resort with enough to keep him physically entertained from sunup to sundown feels like a win.
Here are some of the on-resort and off-resort activities the Marriott Cancun offers:
On-Resort Activities
- Poolside Fun: Various pool activities such as water zumba, pool volleyball and other fun games.
- Daily Family Highlights: Daily family activities such as poolside pizza-making, mocktail mixology (one of my son's favorite activities), arts and crafts, tie-dye and Spanish lessons.
- Nightly Entertainment: Nightly entertainment such as a silent disco, magic shows, movie nights, music nights and aquatic shows (to name a few).
Off-Resort Activities (Organized by the concierge, extra cost)
- Jungle Speedboat Tour with Snorkeling: An action-packed ride through the mangroves.
- Island Getaway: Day trip to Isla Mujeres.
- Historic Adventure: Day trip to Chichen Itza.
- Marine Life Encounters: A visit to Cancun's Interactive Aquarium and Dolphinarium.
- On the Water: Fishing tours.
- Explore History: A visit to the Mayan Ruins.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Definitely book the Jungle Speedboat tour with Aquaworld, the resort's off-site activity partner located across from the resort. This tour takes you through the lagoon on individual speedboats, through the mangroves and out into the blue waters for snorkeling with tropical fish. No experience needed…they teach you everything!
Tween-Approved Restaurants at the Marriott Cancun
- A Foodie’s Paradise: My son considers himself a "foodie", so restaurant options are always a huge factor when considering resorts. The Marriott Cancun overdelivers in this area.
- Tons of Options (No Dressing Up Required!): The resort has 12 family-friendly dining facilities to choose from, all of which have tween-friendly, casual dress-code policies (mine is not a fan of "dressing up").
The Restaurants We'd Visit Again
- Mikado – Teppanyaki: Japanese dinner restaurant with an unforgettable hibachi show.
- Delphina: Oceanfront Mediterranean restaurant offering delicious, health-conscious lunch and dinner dishes.
- Hana Polynesian Grill: Polynesian fare with cozy indoor and outdoor seating. Enjoy a buffet-style breakfast or dinner.
- Casa Madre: Traditional Mexican breakfast and dinner fare with both classics and regional specialties in an open-air environment. (My son hasn't stopped talking about the hash browns!)
- Pizzeria by La Isla: Poolside pizza joint offering a variety of pizzas and calzones– a must for hungry tweens.
- Toscanni: Flavorful, traditional Italian dinner fare, great for a nice dinner after a full day at the resort.
What Families With Food Allergies and Picky Eaters Should Know
- A Wonderful Surprise: It took us by surprise just how accommodating every restaurant was to meet dietary needs and preferences.
- Our Specific Needs: My family has multiple food allergies: eggs, seafood, sesame and all types of nuts. That said, it isn't just about the menu, but whether they can actually accommodate those allergies.
- Above and Beyond Service: From preparing food on separate grills to creating custom menu selections, every restaurant inquired about and catered to our allergies.
- Peace of Mind: They made sure everyone could enjoy the food and experience equally.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Take a stroll through the herb garden in front of the resort. "Foodie" kids like mine will enjoy walking through and pointing out the fresh herbs from our favorite dishes. Yes, the hotel restaurants and bars use them!
Just for Adults at the Marriott Cancun
- A Vacation Must: Even when vacationing with little ones and tweens, getting a bit of adult time in is a must.
- Sneaking Away: While your child hangs out at CAMP Club or relaxes in the room (if they're old enough, of course), plenty awaits you as well.
What You'll Love
- The Lobby Bar: A beautiful lobby bar with plenty of seating, multiple TVs and a big screen, perfect for relaxing with a drink alone or with other adult company. (During our visit, it was the go-to spot for guests gathering to watch the World Cup games!)
- Adults-Only Infinity Pool: An exclusive adults-only infinity pool section featuring a swim-up bar and stunning ocean views.
- Fitness Center: A modern fitness center offering fitness classes Monday through Friday.
- Ka-Lai Beach Retreat: Pamper yourself with beachfront massages, facials and rituals.
- Romantic Dining: Private beachfront dinners.
- Tailored Entertainment: Adult-focused activities and nightly entertainment.
SheBuysTravel Tip:Visit the resort’sevents calendarfor current adult-focused seasonal events and special experiences throughout the year.
