A noon-hour traffic jam left motorists delayed Wednesday in the heart of Macon as Thanksgiving-holiday travelers and locals alike navigated a stretch of freeway near the under-construction interchange at Interstate 75 and Interstate 16.
The midday backup on westbound I-16 stretched for about a mile from around the Ocmulgee River bridge on east past the Macon Coliseum.
The tie-up, due to heavy volume and freeways shrunk to two, shifting and bumpy lanes in spots because of long-ongoing roadwork, also backed up southbound I-75 approaching the I-16 interchange.
