Prayer for today (11/5/15)

O God, there are times when loneliness and despair swirl inside of us with chaotic frenzy and turmoil. Sometimes the world of order and meaning that we cherish seems to disintegrate around us, splintering and smashing apart like a fragile boat caught at sea in a mighty storm. Our world of love and light is threatened from every side, from within and from without.

Yet in the midst of our darkness, in the midst of our doubt, in the midst of our loneliness, you, O God, are with us, calling us together to hear the Gospel love story. God, the light of your gracious love, the hope that is ours in the Gospel of Jesus, the faith that is a precious gift from your loving heart -- since all of these are ours, let loneliness and despair depart.

Let us not be afraid to look into our own darkness. And then help us to look into the immeasurable light of your love, O God, to pass from your darkness into your light, to grasp your outstretched hand and be lifted from despair to hope.

Let us not be afraid to travel from loneliness to love, from sadness to joy.

Amen.
