Guess what’s happening next weekend in Forsyth. It’s Save A Pet’s fundraiser to help support its new, beautiful no-kill shelter in Monroe County. I’ve posted some videos of the awesome shelter and the happy dogs available for adoption there so you can see why we’re working so hard on the fundraiser. I am so proud of Save A Pet for the incredible work to build this facility.

Bone Appetit is the yummy steak and rib cookoff that will be held next Saturday, May 14, from 5 until 10 p.m. It will be the first time Save A Pet has offered this event, so please help them out. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, please do so today. You may call Miss Pat Corley at 994-5223.

Next weekend is special with the Save A Pet fundraiser, and this weekend is special for moms everywhere. This is the weekend we honor the wonderful ladies in our lives who have meant so much to us.

I have been especially blessed in the area of having wonderful ladies in my life. Of course, my mom, Tracie VanDeWalker, is one of the reasons I’m even alive.

Then there’s my precious Grammie, Charlotte Van Hoozier. What would I have done without her love and encouragement all these years?

And of course my aunts, Aunt Patti Deeb Jones and Aunt Janet Battcher. Aunt Patti has been with me from the start when I was about 6 weeks old. She worked her marketing magic and has been my publicist. Aunt Janet has been so good about organizing my education program and developing my curriculum. We have some exciting news about that we’ll roll out later. Stay tuned.

I can’t talk about special ladies in my life without mentioning my sister, Amanda Floyd Reed. She is the sweetest sister anyone could have. I was found so young and the circumstances were so dangerous, but Amanda helped protect me. I had it great as a puppy, but unfortunately not every dog does.

Puppies and kittens born this time of year have a really hard life ahead of them. This is puppy and kitty season, and I can’t tell you the number of calls I get about people’s pets that have had babies and now they want the mama dog or cat and all the babies gone.

This time of year there is an abundance of puppies and kittens because so many have not gotten their pets spayed. Our goal is to prevent mamas from continuing to have babies. We already are overrun with puppies and kittens. And the sad thing is, the ones that make it to the pound don’t usually have a good outcome.

A great Mother’s Day present would be to have them spayed. Moms, tell your family that in addition to your wonderful Mother’s Day gifts that you would like them to make a donation in your name to help Central Georgia CARES spay cats and dogs. Just send your tax-deductible gift to CARES at P.O. Box 7498, Macon, GA 31209.

Our human moms will be honored this weekend, and our fur moms can be honored as well by getting them spayed. They will thank you for that.
