AC Pup gives two paws up to Save A Pet in Monroe County
Last week I shared information about Bone Appetit, the delicious fundraising cookout planned for May 14 for Save A Pet rescue in Forsyth. It will be a wonderful time for folks who either like to grill steaks, just eat them or both to come out to help the animals. So make arrangements to get your cooking team fired up to compete. If you just want to dine there, get your tickets now.
Today I want to tell you a little about Save A Pet and its magnificent accomplishments so you can get to know the organization a little better. I'll bet you'll be just as proud of those folks as I am.
Organized in 1998 and regulated by the Secretary of State Securities Business Regulations, Save A Pet is the only no-kill shelter organized in Monroe County. These animal-loving people rescue homeless dogs and house them until qualified families are found.
They not only house the spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped dogs, but they also actively promote them in a variety of ways. This includes publicizing them on Facebook with incredibly beautiful photographs as well as taking them to the local PetSmart, where possible adopting families can see them in person.
They help support their nonprofit cause with well-executed events like the upcoming one on May 14, and they also operate the Save A Pet Boutique and Flea Market located in Forsyth near the train depot. They also write grants and accept donations, as do most nonprofit organizations.
Their mission always has been to build their own shelter to house rescue dogs and to be a location where the community feels welcome to visit and volunteer. I'm happy to report that goal is almost complete.
Their dream of a brand new, beautiful, 6,500-square-foot facility located on 10 acres at 618 Maynard Church Road in Forsyth is now a reality. It offers 34 kennels that allow the dogs to go inside or outside for fresh air and has space for the dogs to get plenty of exercise in two large fenced areas.
The community has rallied around Save A Pet to help make this dream a success. The Boy Scouts also are doing their part by developing walking trails on the beautiful grounds so everyone can enjoy the area regardless of whether they're interested in adopting a pet.
You can help this rescue group by planning to attend the incredibly fun event May 14. The hope is for this fundraiser to provide a significant boost for the group. What better way to help than have an enjoyable, entertaining evening knowing you're helping homeless animals at the same time? I think it's a great idea, and that's why I'll be there.
