AC Pup's birthday bash just a week away

I am so excited! Do you know what happens a week from today?

Next Saturday my nonprofit animal welfare group, Central Georgia CARES, is sponsoring my seventh birthday party at 1 p.m. at the Georgia Industrial Children's Home, located at 4690 Mumford Road in Macon. That's right, next Saturday will be when I'm celebrating my big day, and you're invited.

I always look forward to a party, especially my own. But I really am thrilled I get to party with you, my friends and the great folks at the children's home. I have so much fun with the kids there. And of course I always love being around people that have supported CARES and me all these years.

I hope you'll come out and join me for delicious birthday cupcakes and great fellowship. I will even have my kissing booth there, and I'll be puckered up for smooches.

I'll also have a few barrel dog houses we've made from large plastic drums available for people who might need a way to provide a little shelter for their pets. We have a limited supply, but we're happy to share with those folks who need them the most.

My birthday always makes me reminisce about my long association with CARES. You see, they snagged me as their mascot not long after I was born, and we've been together ever since.

We've really done some great work together over the years for the benefit of animals and the people who love them. We've been able to promote the importance of spaying and neutering for pets, the adoption of all healthy, homeless animals, humane education in our schools and the elimination of animal cruelty.

And although CARES is not a rescue group, we've had the honor of assisting several local rescue groups work toward their mission of adopting and caring for their animals. We have such respect for the work the rescue groups do and want to do whatever we can to help them.

One of the ways we help not only rescue groups but needy individuals as well is with food for their pets. We get requests from people who, for whatever reason, need a little nutritional support for their pets.

We also help feed orphaned, homeless pets around our area as well. CARES has been making sure some feral dogs and cats do not go hungry, so we provide food for them as well.

I'd like to give you the opportunity to help CARES with feeding the hungry. In honor of my birthday, please bring some dog and cat food with you to the party next Saturday.

If you would prefer to bring the food before the party, feel free to drop it off any time this week at the big white administrative building at the children's home. They are happy to collect it for us this week.

Or if you'd rather make a tax-deductible donation to CARES for us to buy food, we can do that too. Either bring your gift to the party or mail to CARES, 520 Professional Drive, Suite 2, Macon, GA 31201. Or you can always go to PayPal at acpupfund@yahoo.com to make your contribution.

I can't wait to see you next Saturday at my birthday party. Please plan to stop by the kissing booth so I can give you sugar. See you next week!
