AC Pup highlights a love that never ends
I'm fascinated with the number of recent incidents involving, for whatever reasons, pets who went missing for a long time and the pet parents never giving up looking for them.
I'm on a roll with incredible stories of people who continued searching for their furbabies that were lost for extended periods of time.
My column last week featured the sweet story about how Mykie Robbins found his treasured kitty, Derpy, after she'd been lost for 17 days and wandered miles from her home. It was a great reunion between Derpy and her brother, Jesse, as well.
This week I have another spectacular story about a beloved dog that had been missing for seven months.
Miss Alex Adams was on her way from Gwinnett County to Macon to go to the Luke Bryan concert recently when she came upon a schnauzer in the middle of a busy highway. Of course, she could not leave the little guy in the road and she couldn't miss the concert either, so she did what any responsible rescuer would do: She scooped him up and took him to the concert with her.
After the concert she called authorities to get direction on what she should do with the little dog. She wasn't satisfied with the answers she got, so she headed back to Gwinnett County with the little boy in tow. She enlisted the help of her friend Amanda Berjeski to promote him in Middle Georgia and try to find his family. So she posted him, among other places, on my Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ronnie and Miss Vicki King in Macon continued to grieve over the loss seven months earlier of their 1-year-old schnauzer named Charlie. They'd had Charlie since he was a puppy, and he was their baby that loved apple turnovers and Cheerios.
The Kings' adult son, also named Alex, inadvertently left Charlie outside when the Kings were in the hospital in March. Alex was so upset over losing Charlie that he spent two days canvassing the neighborhood looking for him before he told his parents their dog was missing.
After the Kings were out of the hospital, they did everything they could to search for Charlie but to no avail. They couldn't find him anywhere.
Although they were very sad, they did not give up hope. They followed every reported sighting and followed every Facebook post for months. Then Miss Vicki saw Miss Amanda's Facebook post about the schnauzer found in a Middle Georgia county between Atlanta and Macon and contacted her immediately.
Miss Vicki described distinctive details about Charlie to prove she was his mom. The details matched. After seven months of being lost, could it really be him found in another town?
Mr. Ronnie, Miss Vicki and Miss Amanda agreed to meet in Lawrenceville so the Kings could see the dog in person. That was all that was necessary to confirm it was their long-lost Charlie. So they packed Charlie up in the car and brought him home to Macon.
Of course, the Kings are ecstatic about finding their baby after so long. But no one is happier than their son, Alex, and the lady who found him, also named Alex. How ironic that Charlie was both lost and found by someone named Alex.
Charlie is grateful to be back with his family. He's getting plenty of apple turnovers, Cheerios and love. And he's especially grateful to Miss Alex and Miss Amanda for going the extra mile to help a lost baby and for taking him to a rocking Luke Bryan concert.
This is just another wonderful example of pet parents who love their baby and kept the vigil to find him. And it's a story of kind people who did everything they could to make sure a lost baby was safe.
