Historic Fincher’s Barbecue opens its new Warner Robins location, draws a crowd
Fincher’s Barbecue was doing brisk business opening day May 15 at its new Warner Robins location.
“Finally, happy to be here,” said co-owner Jake Fincher as he worked alongside his brother and co-owner Doug Fincher fixing up barbecue plates and burgers. “We’re excited, and we’re expecting big things.”
Known for its uniquely flavored, pulled and chopped pork, Brunswick stew and signature sauce, Fincher’s Barbecue opened its first restaurant at 3497 Houston Avenue in Macon that remains in operation today.
The generational family-business has two other locations in Macon, with the new Warner Robins restaurant replacing its former location on Davis Drive.
The move to 102 South Armed Forces Blvd., across from Robins Air Force Base, is expected to boost business for the already popular barbecue and catering brand.
“Been eating Fincher’s forever and ever,” said Terry Mock, who works for the Houston County Water Department and was having lunch with friend and co-worker Eric Hester. “The barbecue is great. I always get the ‘Super Pig’ and fries.”
As a kid, Mock’s whole family ate at Fincher’s Barbecue every Friday night, he recalled.
“Good friendly people,” said Mock, who lives in Bonaire. “As Hank Williams Jr. says, ‘a family tradition.’“
Frankie Morgan of Warner Robins also followed Fincher’s Barbecue to its new Warner Robins spot.
When asked how often he eats at Fincher’s Barbecue, Morgan replied, “I can’t tell you, because if my wife reads this ... I come about three times a week.”
Morgan was having his usual cheeseburger with ketchup only and fries. He’s also a fan of the restaurant’s pork chop.
“I think it’s a good location, and I think one of the perks is that they’re going to be serving breakfast, and they’re going to be opening at like 6 in the morning to get the early folks that work on base,” said Jessica Harpe, also a Fincher’s Barbecue regular.
The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch. Southern favorites of eggs, grits, bacon, sausage and country ham are on the breakfast menu, which also includes breakfast sandwiches.
The lunch menu includes fan favorites of barbecue plates and sandwiches. Burgers are also popular. Sides include coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, turnip greens, fries and fried okra.
Don’t forget the banana pudding for dessert.
Fincher’s posted about Friday’s soft opening that morning on Facebook. The parking lot was full.
Dining room hours for the new spot are 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, while the drive-thru is open 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. The restaurant is closed Saturday and Sunday.
