Longtime coffee shop will close as book hub is ‘taking off’ in Warner Robins
The owners of a cozy Warner Robins café and bookstore announced Tuesday they will close the shop after 10 years in business and plan to invest in other ventures.
Between Friends Coffee, at 1080 Georgia Highway 96 Suite 100, is expected to close around late May to early June, according to co-owner Victoria Hawkins.
“It’s really exciting. I know it seems bittersweet, but we’re just kind of handing off one chapter, I suppose, to put more focus on the next,” Hawkins told The Telegraph.
She and co-owner Jaimie Miller plan to hone in on their publishing company, Between Friends Publishing, which supports independent authors. The duo also partners with state literacy initiatives.
“Those things are taking off,” Hawkins said. “So we’re looking at kind of switching hands for the coffee shop part of it so that we can focus more on those initiatives.”
They plan to sell the coffee business and are in the process of choosing a buyer, according to Hawkins.
“The buyer will assume the current lease and have the opportunity to explore additional growth options with the landlord, including the potential addition of a drive-thru,” Hawkins said. Prospective buyers can email hello@betweenfriendscoffee.com.
The publishing company will continue remotely without a brick-and-mortar, she said.
Hawkins and Miller invited customers to come sign their scrap book in the weeks before they close up shop. Between Friends Coffee announced the upcoming closure on its Instagram story Tuesday.
“Before we close this chapter, we hope you’ll stop by, pick up a pen, and leave us something we can hold onto long after the doors close for the last time,” the post said. “With gratitude for every page we’ve written together, Jaimie & Victoria.”
