A popular Irish gastropub is expected to reopen soon, after being closed for over a year in downtown Macon.

Kris Ellis, owner of Bearfoot Tavern, said the restaurant will tentatively open on Nov. 24. Ellis also owns The Social Duck, a duckpin bowling alley next door on Second Street.

“You know how that goes,” Ellis said.

The opening date was pushed back a few times since 2024, while the restaurant was under construction.

Ellis said he initially hoped to reopen by the end of 2024 and then by March, he previously told The Telegraph.

“It’s tentative,” he said Thursday, referring to the new date.

Bearfoot Tavern closed when its roof collapsed from a heavy storm on July 21, 2024.

In the midst of construction and renovations at the pub, Ellis opened a food truck that served fan favorites and new items, and made stops across Middle Georgia. He also opened a mini bowling alley and bar next door with a lounge-like, “totally different” vibe, as he put it.

“We’ve worked tirelessly to restore our beloved tavern, pouring our hearts into every detail to bring back the warm, inviting atmosphere you know and love,” the restaurant posted on Facebook Thursday.

The restaurant thanked the local community for sticking around, and welcomed this new chapter.

“We can’t wait for you to see the updates, grab a cold one (or a fine whiskey!), and make new memories with us,” Bearfoot Tavern said.
