First Super Chix in Middle Georgia opens in Macon, promising fresh, speedy flavor

Texas-based Super Chix Chicken & Custard made its Middle Georgia debut last week with a location in north Macon off Riverside Drive.

The new chicken spot is the chain’s seventh location in Georgia, the store’s operational manager and Super Chix partner Nelson Castillo said. The other six locations are in the metro Atlanta area, but after seeing success at restaurants in Newnan and Peachtree City, Super Chix decided to expand further south into Macon.

Castillo said the new Super Chix location will expand the fast-casual dining options in Macon.

“You can go to other restaurants that are more like a full-service restaurant,” Castillo said. “There’s not a lot of fast-casual dining.”

Super Chix offers chicken sandwiches with a variety of toppings, specialty fries, salads and frozen custard and shakes. Diners can choose whether they want their chicken breaded or grilled on every menu item.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Castillo said Super Chix sets itself apart from other chicken restaurants because of its emphasis on speed without sacrificing flavor. Super Chix requires restaurants to serve chicken within seven days of the kill date, meaning the meat is never frozen.

“We don’t even have a freezer in here,” Castillo said.

Everything is cooked to order, so nothing sits out for hours under a heat lamp.

The restaurant may be a little more expensive than other chains — with sandwiches selling for about $12, salads going for around $15 and custard products for around $8 — but Castillo said the quality, taste and generous portion sizes more than justify the cost.

“We back it up with our freshness and customer service,” Castillo said.

The new location’s first day was Sept. 29, and Castillo said business has only increased each day since. Castillo said he anticipates Super Chix having a busy weekend as Maconites from all over town come to try the new spot.

“We have fresh chicken, fresh food and great service,” Castillo said. “It’s what we promise.”
