Food & Drink

We tried 5 margaritas from around Macon. Here are our favorites.

Whether you’re looking for something to drink for a fun night out or just to have with dinner, margaritas are always a classic.

From sweet to spicy to savory, they come in a variety of flavors sure to please every palette. We tried five margaritas from around Macon and here’s what we thought.

Margaritas Mexican Grill — El Diablo Margarita

Named for the very cocktail we came to try, Margaritas Mexican Grill at Mercer Village was prepared to deliver with the “El Diablo” margarita. It’s a savory creation sure to please Bloody Mary fans. It’s made with Corazón Blanco Tequila, cucumbers, lime juice, agave syrup, jalapeños and Tajín for a salty, spicy kick.

Ocmulgee Brewpub — Sweet and Spicy Margarita

The newest margarita to this list, the sweet and spicy margarita, was added to Ocmulgee Brewpub’s repertoire after the eatery renovated and added a cocktail menu this summer. Made with Dulce Vida pineapple jalapeño tequila, triple sec, house sweet and sour and a splash of pineapple, the drink has a fruity sweetness chased by a savory aftertaste. The Tajín added a touch of heat.

La Bella Morelia — Hibiscus Margarita

La Bella Morelia’s hibiscus margarita is a classic margarita with lime juice, triple sec, Casamigos Silver and hibiscus for a sweet, flowery touch. The margarita has an almost candy-like flavor matched by the tequila. The Tajín adds a good, hot kick. While it was a little sweet for my tastes, it’s sure to please anyone who’s a fan of fruity cocktails.

Jalapeños Cantina — Red Bull Tropical Margarita

I’m not going to lie, when I first heard the concept of Red Bull in a margarita I was hesitant. But, have no fear, Jalapeños Cantina pulls it off with a perfect balance of sweet and salty with a hit of pineapple. The drink contains tequila, lime, orange juice and tropical-flavored Red Bull.

El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant — Frozen Peach Margarita

Last but certainly not least, I tried El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant’s frozen peach margarita. The margarita has a smooth, creamy texture and a sweet, fresh flavor thanks to Georgia’s favorite fruit. It’s also a twist on a classic margarita with lime, triple sec, your choice of tequila and peach flavoring. It also comes served in a milkshake glass with salt or sugar on the rim.
