Warner Robins restaurant and lounge, Perry country club fail health inspections
A restaurant and lounge in Warner Robins and a country club in Perry failed routine health inspections in August, with both cited for improper food temperatures for safety and other violations.
Bon Vivant Restaurant and Lounge at 511 North Davis Drive in Warner Robins received a 62, which is a “U” for “unsatisfactory compliance,” at its routine inspection Aug. 5, according to what was reported Thursday in the state health department’s online portal.
The restaurant and lounge bounced back at its follow-up inspection two days later for a perfect score of 100 for an “A” denoting food safety excellence.
Houston Lake Country Club at 100 Champions Way in Perry received a 67 for a “U” at its routine inspection Aug. 7. The country club also bounced back with a perfect score of 100 for an “A” at its follow-up inspection Aug. 12.
State Environmental Health inspectors assign grades based on how many points are deducted from 100, with scores at 69 and below considered failing.
Restaurants and other food establishments that receive either a “U” or a “C” on a routine inspection are required to have follow-up inspections, which usually take place within 10 days of the routine inspection.
A barbecue spot in Warner Robins and pizza place in Bonaire both received a “C” for “marginal compliance” at routine inspections during the same reporting period of Aug. 1-31. A “C” is given for a score from 70 to 79.
Q Time Barbeque at 1205 South Houston Lake Road scored a 70 at its routine health inspection Aug. 15. The restaurant improved with a score of 91 for an “A” at its follow-up inspection Aug. 20.
Marco’s Pizza at 405 Ga. 96, Suite 800, in Bonaire, scored a 76 at its routine health inspection Aug. 12, improving with a score of 95 at its follow-up inspection the next day.
Meanwhile, most restaurants, coffee shops, bars and food trucks in Houston County scored “A’s” on routine health inspections during the Aug. 1-31 reporting period. Of those, more than 50 earned perfect scores of 100.
Only eight received a “B.”
Failing grades
Bon Vivant Restaurant and Lounge received a score of 62 in part due to cooked oxtails inside a steam table below the required temperature for food safety.
Other violations cited in the inspection report include:
- Cooked chicken wings inside a cooler with an insufficient amount of ice and a dairy-based batter on a countertop at temperatures higher than the temperature required for food safety.
- Pink buildup along the baffle inside the ice machine. The baffle directs the flow of ice.
- A bottle of degreaser was stored next to an open bag of rice on the prep table.
- Food handlers were prepping food items without hair restraints.
- The person in charge was not ensuring time/temperature control for holding food required for food safety.
- The person in charge was not ensuring food contact surfaces were being cleaned.
- The hand washing sinks in the main kitchen were without paper towels.
- The mixture for the chlorine sanitizer solution for the dish machine was not as required for proper washing, rinsing, and sanitizing.
- Wet wiping cloths were on a counter-top in the main kitchen instead of being held in a chemical hand sanitizer solution.
- An unlabeled chemical bottle was seen in the main kitchen.
- Containers of salt, cornstarch and flour were stored on the dry storage shelf unlabeled.
- An ice scoop in the main kitchen was stored on top of the ice machine and an ice scoop in the bar area was stored on a wooden platform.
- Boxes of single use items such as straws and bowls were stored on the floor in a dry storage area.
- Trash and other debris was scattered around the outside dumpster.
Houston Lake Country Club received a score of 67 in part due to pimento cheese, chili and cooked rice in a reach-in cooler being above the required temperature for food safety.
Other violations cited in the inspection report include:
- Poblano peppers held in a steam table were below the required temperature for food safety.
- Cooked brisket in the walk-in cooler placed there the previous night was above the required temperature for food safety.
- Refrigerated white rice, shredded cheese, brisket, prepared oysters, mixed vegetables and boiled eggs were not date marked as required for food safety.
- The person in charge was not performing their duties as it relates to priority violations of improper cold holding, not cooling down food properly, improper sanitizing of food contact surfaces, and not date marking foods.
- A dishwashing machine did not have the correct, required sanitizing solution mixture.
- Multiple items of food were stored on the floor within a walk-in cooler and within dry storage.
- Food handlers were preparing food without proper hair and beard restraints.
- Multiple buckets of sanitizer solution for wet wiping cloths within the kitchen were improperly placed directly on the floor.
Marginal compliance
Q Time Barbeque received a score of 70 in part for cooked dressing reheating inside a warmer cabinet below the required temperature for food safety.
Other violations cited in the inspection report include:
- Heavy whipping cream and sour cream in a reach-in cooler were above the required temperature for food safety.
- The person in charge was not performing their duties to ensure time/temperature control to ensure foods are properly reheated and held at the proper temperatures.
- The person in charge could not provide any documentation indicating all food service employees are aware of foodborne illnesses as required.
- An employee was actively prepping food without wearing a hair restraint.
Marco’s Pizza off Ga. 96 in Bonaire received a score of 76 in part due to white American cheese, pizza sauce, boneless wings and cooked chicken wings all being stored in a walk-in cooler above the temperature required for food safety.
Other violations cited in the inspection report include:
- A container of meatballs inside a cooler and a container of boneless chicken wings stored inside the cooler portion of a prep top cooler did not have proper date marking.
- The person in charge was not ensuring foods inside a walk-in cooler were being held at the proper temperature and were cooling properly. Several food containers of pizza sauce with condensation on the lid were being stored in the walk-in cooler.
- No certified food safety manager was employed at the restaurant.
- Two chemical spray bottles were being stored without a label.
- Employee’s food items were being stored inside the front reach-in cooler next to prepped salads for customers.
