Ocmulgee Brewpub closed for renovations. Owner says changes will improve service
Ocmulgee Brewpub — a downtown Macon staple known for its craft beers and pub food — announced in a Monday Facebook post that it would be closed temporarily while it undergoes renovations.
Owner Richie Jones said Wednesday that the restaurant is extending the bar to add full bar and table service, replacing the counter service model Ocmulgee Brewpub previously relied on.
Jones — who owns several other Macon restaurants including Circa Brasserie and Jim Shaw’s Seafood Grill — said Jim Shaw’s Seafood is the only other business he owns that uses a counter service system. He decided to change Ocmulgee Brewpub to offer full bar and table service in order to bring it in line with the rest of his portfolio and better meet customer expectations.
“(Jim Shaw’s Seafood) is the only counter service that I know of that does amazingly well,” Jones said. “We want a full restaurant.”
Ocmulgee Brewpub is set to re-open to the public on July 7 with the same beloved menu, Jones said.
