More than half of all Publix locations in Georgia will soon carry Macon-based Fall Line Brewing Co. beer.

Over 100 Publix’s spanning across Middle Georgia and a few outside of that will feature six-pack cans of one of Fall Line’s top-selling beers called Cloud Breaker, according to Andrea Smith, the brewery’s statewide sales manager.

“It’s our India pale ale. It’s very light, very easy drinking, more of a fruity profile, but we don’t add any fruit,” Smith told The Telegraph. “It’s a great beer for the summer, or for every day honestly.”

The featured brew is not yet available at all of its partnered Publix sites. Smith was unsure how long it would take to get them fully stocked. Three six-packs of Cloud Breaker, each priced at $11.39, sat in a refrigerator Monday at Publix Super Market at Bass Plantation at 5451 Bowman Road in Macon.

The company previously only sold beer at restaurants, small grocery and liquor stores, and its brewery at 567 Plum Street in Macon. Publix is now its largest retail partner.

“It’s a bigger clientele, different people that go to Publix,” Smith said. “People that go to Publix traditionally wouldn’t go to just a mom-and-pop liquor store to buy stuff and see our brand.”

Selling Fall Line at Publix grocery stores

The grocery chain chooses new types of beers to put on its shelves each year. When a brand doesn’t sell well, the store replaces it with a new one.

“They get all these breweries that submit beers to be in their store, and they like, ‘Which one’s going to fit our style, our clientele the best?’” Smith said. “...They don’t want to have a dying brand in the planning room because that’s just not going to make them money.”

Savannah Distributing, a Georgia-based alcohol distribution company, will buy the beer from Fall Line and get the profits from Publix. Then, Fall Line will receive a portion of profits from Savannah Distributing. Smith did not mention the percentage of profits.

“Hopefully we get a lot of sales and then we can get two skews in there next year,” Smith said.

The beer will still get canned and brewed locally at the Macon brewery. To keep up with increased sales, Fall Line increased its production of the beer, but its staff size didn’t change.

“From start to finish, we grain all of our own grains, we brew on the back deck,” Smith said. “We just ramped up the brew.”
