Best new Macon restaurant of 2023? Here’s who you chose as the winner of our bracket
Steaks, burgers, seafood, Mexican cuisine and more.
Foodies unite, because Macon is the place for food, and lots of it.
With new restaurants opening up all over the city, there’s more than enough to enjoy.
But if you had to pick the best new restaurant in Macon, could you?
Well, you did!
For the last few weeks, we’ve asked you to vote for the best new Macon restaurant of 2023 and it looks like we’ve found the winner.
And the winner is…
Chevo’s Mexican Restaurant.
Here’s a breakdown of each round:
Round One:
We started the bracket with 16 savory restaurants in Macon that opened in the last year. Here’s the list:

- Churchills on Cherry
- Loom
- 3rd & Cherry Steak and Seafood Restaurant
- Marie’s Lounge
- Library Taphouse
- Chick-in-Box
- Essential Bowls
- Cru Lounge
- KJK Jamaican Kitchen
- Kravin’ Gravy
- Sophia’s on Second
- Liliana’s
- Hickman’s
- Nature’s Table
- Chevo’s Mexican Grill
The first Round ended with 216 votes. 177 of those votes went to Taco Mac with 82% of the vote. Chevo’s Mexican Restaurant came in second place in Round One with seven votes, as did Loom and 3rd and Cherry.
Round Two:
Round Two cut the bracket in half and began with eight restaurants.
The Round had 54 total votes and Nature’s Table took the win in Round Two with 48% of the vote. In second place was Taco Mac with 19% of the vote.
Churchills on Cherry was in third and had 11% of the vote with six total votes. Chevo’s ended Round Two in fourth place with 9% of the vote (five votes).
Round Three:
In Round Three, it was between four remaining restaurants: Taco Mac, Chevo’s Mexican Restaurant, Nature’s Table and Churchills on Cherry.
There were 31 total votes in Round Three and Nature’s Table secured 48% of the votes.
Chevo’s came in second place in Round Three with 26% (8 votes).
Churchills on Cherry and Taco Mac came in third and fourth place to end Round Three.
Final Round:
In the Final Round, there were 115 votes total.
With 63 of those votes (55% of the total), was Chevo’s Mexican, the winner of the bracket.
Nature’s Table was a close runner-up, with 52 votes.

Chevo’s Mexican Restaurant is located at 4921 Riverside Drive in Macon and is owned by Juan Alaniz, a native of Mexico. The restaurant serves a variety of food, such as appetizers, nachos, soups and salads, specialties of the house, meatless options, fajitas, quesadillas, steaks and seafood.
The restaurant offers dine-in and takeout, is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
