Nearly 50% of the vote and 700 pounds of beef: Here’s the Macon Burger Week winner
Macon brought the flavor, heat and no doubt the beef during Macon Burger Week 2023.
And one thing is for sure: We ate and were well fed.
A total of 27 restaurants participated in the competition to create the best beefy burger. From tangy taco burgers to irresistible egg roll burgers, burger-inspired pizzas and delicious dessert-style burgers — Macon had quite the mouth-watering week from Nov. 13-19 during the annual competition.
But there can only be one winner. And that winner won over the stomachs of many across Macon and Bibb County.
Here’s the winner
With over 1,000 votes, the winner of the People’s Choice Award went to (drum roll) ... the Hot Shot burger from Grey Goose Players Club.
The burger is an 8-ounce CAB burger with the restaurant’s signature “sweet and smokey” habanero bacon jam, pimento cheese and topped with a fried green tomato.
According to the Georgia Beef Board, this burger brought the sizzle.
“This accolade is a testament to the superior taste and quality that the Hot Shot brought to the table,” said Caitlin Jackson, checkoff program coordinator for the Georgia Beef Board. “The Hot Shot truly embodies the spirit of Macon Burger Week, showcasing the exceptional quality of beef and the culinary expertise of our local chefs.”
Macon Burger Week shared the news in a Facebook post, tagging the Grey Goose Players Club, 4524 Forsyth Road, in the Forsyth Landing strip mall.
“The Grey Goose Players Club has officially been knighted as burger royalty!”
A spokesman for the restaurant was not immediately available for comment.
Jackson said Grey Goose Players Club won 48% of the vote and the restaurant reported it sold 1,415 burgers during the Macon Burger Week competition.
Fun fact: That’s a total of 710 pounds of beef!
Clever Creation Award
But that’s not all she wrote, folks. In fact, there’s one more award that the Georgia Beef Board gave out for Macon Burger Week.
And for this award, the board brought out a panel of judges in the Georgia beef cattle industry to taste and choose a restaurant that “stood out for its inventive use of ingredients to highlight the beef burger.”
The coveted “Cleverly Created Award” was given to La Bella Morelia for their Al Pastor Burger.
“The Al Pastor Burger not only impressed the Macon community but also earned the admiration of our beef industry professionals by highlighting beef in a most creative way,” Jackson said.
The restaurant self-reported selling 650 burgers during Macon Burger Week for a total of 285 pounds of beef.
