Dublin police investigating woman’s shooting death

Dublin police are trying to find out what led to the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old woman Tuesday night.

Around 8:30 p.m., officers were called to 402 Columbia St. after a report of gunshots, with a possible female victim. When they got there, they found Taylor Ruth Ferrell-Carter, who was declared dead on the scene.

She lived there with her boyfriend, 25-year-old Juan Vasquez-Diaz. Two other men also lived at the home but had been visiting neighbors at the time of the shooting.

“They stated that they heard the shots but didn’t realize it came from their house,” Dublin Police Chief Wayne Cain said.

When the roommates went home 20 minutes after hearing the shots, they found Ferrell-Carter.

After responding to the call, officers got word that Vasquez-Diaz had been seen trying to enter a car near Parker Dairy Road, about 2 miles away.

“He was walking in that area, and he was arrested there,” Cain said.

Vasquez-Diaz was charged with murder in the shooting and is being held in the Laurens County jail without bond.

Police are looking into potential motives for the killing and the time line from the other roommates.

“All of that is still under investigation,” Cain said.
