A man was shot dead in downtown Macon early Sunday and another was wounded.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the shooting happened in the parking lot of Raffield Tire Master at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Poplar Street. The men were found between two cars.

He identified the deceased as Danny Thomas Causey, 33, of Macon. His friend, Terry Warren, 29, of Macon, was shot multiple times and is in stable condition at the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office release said that shortly after 1:30 a.m. a report came in of several shots fired in the area. When deputies arrived on the scene they found the two victims. No further information about what happened was released.

The Facebook page of Causey, also known as “Mac Town,” states that he worked at Perdue Farms and was originally from Warner Robins.

He spent some time in prison, but Horace Sanford, who said he was close friends with Causey, said Causey became a different person after he was released. He described him as a fun, caring person and a good friend.

“He learned from his mistakes and changed his life around completely,” Sanford said.

Sanford said Causey did flooring work part time and dreamed of starting his own business. He also said Causey had a young daughter and was a devoted father.

It is the 37th homicide of the year in Macon.
