Wreck on I-75 turned Bibb firefighters upside down

With help from a co-worker, a Macon-Bibb County firefighter dived into an overturned truck on Interstate 75 southbound Friday to retrieve his radio and hat.

The driver of the truck, Steven Zimvler, said he was OK as he stood under Hartley Bridge Road watching traffic crawl by.

"I couldn't see where I landed so I got out as fast as I could cause I didn't want another car to come and slam into me," Zimvler said. "I didn't know which way I was facing."

Zimvler said a car hydroplaned into a transfer truck and then back into his lane. The car hit his truck in the right rear and, as he tried to avoid a crash, his silver Ford tipped over into the breakdown lane.
