What Happened to Freddy? Germany's Viral World Cup Fan Deletes X Account

Like all good things on the Internet, German soccer fanFreddy's run on X has come to an end.

World Cup fans fell in love with Freddy, who toured North America to support the German national team, sharing his overwhelmingly positive observations via X along the way. That included his first trips to Buc-ee's and Taco Bell, and late-night meals at Waffle House.

The apparent wholesomeness led some to believe he was a plant, either from the United States government or even big-name brands looking for publicity.

Freddy, known online as @FreddyLA7, abruptly deleted his account on Thursday, June 30, taking to his Instagram Stories to explain why.

"Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know why I deactivated my account," he wrote. "1. This was the plan all along even before we started the World Cup trip. 2. Too many people seem to have a problem with us having a genuinely good time here in the country, and this is ruining the fun a bit for us because we really just wanted to document our road-trip and never expected that people would have a problem with it."

Freddy added that some users on X were digging into his old posts to bring them back up without context in an effort to make him "look like a bad person." That includes one post in which he appears to be arguing in favor of using the n-word in rap lyrics and another referring to "Afroamericans" as "racist."

Freddy said others were upset that it is not his first time in the United States, even though he has been open about that from the start.

"I can understand that it seemed like [it was our first time] for many because of our reactions to the stuff we saw, which is because we've never been to any of the places we visited," he explained. "It was for us all our first time in the South. I've only been to the main tourist places like NYC, LA and Las Vegas."

Though Germany surprisingly failed to advance past the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, Freddy and his traveling party will continue to explore North America. He even revealed that during a pitstop in Enfield, Connecticut, he saw fireflies for the first time.

"Don't worry guys, we're still gonna enjoy our time here and obviously celebrate 4th of July," he assured followers. "Our route now is. Boston to Dallas. We can't wait to get back into the South. Just not gonna update on Twitter anymore because it's just too toxic over there."

Freddy continued, "Thank you so much for all the super nice and supportive messages. I'm reading them all while we're on the road and really getting emotional seeing all the love you are sending us."
