NYC Mayor Thinks Taylor Swift Will Be 'Cool' Getting Married in Heatwave

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani wants residents to stay cool during the upcoming heatwave - even during Taylor Swift's reported wedding weekend.

"My recommendation to all New Yorkers is [to] stay inside and stay cool," Mamdani, 34, said during a Tuesday, June 30, press conference, addressing the precautionary measures for the forthcoming forecast. "If you happen to be getting married at Madison Square Garden, you will be staying inside and you will be staying cool."

He continued, "I think it's a good example to set for the city at large. When it comes to these temperatures, [they] are extraordinary temperatures. Yes, we are proud to be hosting World Cup matches … to be breaking into triple digits over the course of these many next days, it is of our immense concern, given that too often the heat is something that is underestimated."

Despite the expected heatwave, Swift and fiancé Travis Kelcehave been reported to tie the knot at Madison Square Garden. Neither Swift nor Kelce, both 36, has publicly addressed their wedding plans, though Big Apple officials have received permits for a celebration at the famed arena.

City sources confirmed to Us Weeklylate last month that the Street Activity Permit Office, which issues event permits, is in touch with the New York Police Department regarding a possible influx of street and pedestrian traffic around the venue. On Tuesday, crews were also seen loading trucks full of equipment into MSG.

A source recently told Us that Swift and Kelce are planning a two-day celebration across Thursday, July 2, and Friday, July 3.

"Taylor and Travis told guests to be in NYC. No other location was provided," the insider told Us last week. "They're putting their guests on hold for a couple days. They are spending a lot of money - in the millions."

As for Mamdani, he's played coy about whether Swift and Kelce's big day will indeed take place at MSG.

"You know, what I am here to say is that whoever is getting married in New York City, I think it's hard to beat the City Clerk's Office but many will try and soon there will be more news," the politician said on The Weekat the end of June. "Are you hearing that [it is Taylor and Travis' wedding]? I think they're calling me now."

The pop star and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end have been together since 2023, getting engaged two years later in August 2025.
