'Terriers' -- A Show With Bite

With a track record of "The Shield," "Rescue Me," "Damages" et. al., I expected the new FX series "Terriers" to be worthwhile.



I wasn't disappointed.



Tone-wise, "Terriers" is most similar to "Justified," another FX series I really enjoyed with its mix of action and humor.



While "Terriers" doesn't have the Elmore Leonard dialogue of "Justified," it does bring its share of wit while following the adventures of private eyes Hank (Donal Logue), a divorced ex-alcoholic ex-cop, and Britt (Michael Raymond-James), an ex-thief living with his girlfriend.



The pilot has the pair tracking the daughter (Rachel Miner) of Hank's ex-drinking buddy. She's come across some potentially devastating information pertaining to a powerful real estate developer.



Created by Ted Griffin (Ocean's 11) and co-produced by Shawn Ryan ("The Shield"), "Terriers" is as well-written as you might expect with that talent as Hank and Britt try to solve cases with twists you don't see coming.



It's a worthy addition to FX's long-running tradition of quality programming.



WEDNESDAY'S BEST BETS: Not too much else during what is effectively the final week of summer programming. TNT has a new "Dark Blue" at 9 p.m., while USA has a new "Psych" at 10 p.m.
