Macon, you ought to be in pictures. And Hollywood agrees.

From “The Vampire Diaries,” “The Originals,” “The Fifth Wave,” “Zombieland,” “I, Tonya” and more, Macon has been a prime spot for shooting television and movie scenes.

There’s nothing quite like seeing Macon on the big screen. Better yet, seeing your friends and neighbors caught on film. When Macon appears in movies and films, it usually creates new and exciting opportunities for residents, such as becoming an extra in a scene or even finding a job in the industry.

“If somebody was looking for a job right now, productions can’t hire enough crew at this point. It’s a good opportunity for someone to make a career change,” said Aaron Buzza, vice president for development at Visit Macon.

If you’re curious about what’s been filming in the Macon area lately, here are some recent projects and locations:

  • In 2021, a Showtime drama called “First Ladies,” starring Viola Davis as Michelle Obama, was filmed at First Baptist Church of Christ and Grant’s Lounge in Macon (Poplar Street).

  • In 2022, Macon’s Luther Williams Field and Rosa Parks Square were booked by Light of Life Films (a Christian production company).

  • Black Widow (2021) was filmed in Macon with several scenes at Terminal Station.

  • HBO’s show called “Watchman” was filmed in Macon and transformed the area into 1930’s New York; several scenes were filmed at Macon’s Douglas Theater.

  • “Go-Big Show” on TBS used Macon’s empty Coliseum to film its first season.
