Get a feel for America — and great wings
Yes, it’s got a strange name and yes, it’s very close to a bus station and the interstate, but you know what? It’s pretty good.
American Feel and Wings was once a Wendy’s and the structure is still reminiscent of that incarnation. It’s been refitted with more wood and less plastic and it’s even a little elegant for a wings place.
Our wings were a bit heavy on the lemon pepper, coating almost all our taste buds with the yellow seasoning. A six-piece is $5.89 by itself or $7.29 with fries and a drink. The best price break comes at 30 pieces, for $19.29 and at $59.29 for 100. Other flavors include honey chipotle, teriyaki and the usual sauces.
If the “Feel” part encompasses everything non-wing, there’s a lot of Feel going on here. Phillies — both steak and chicken — and fish fillets, two different styles of fried shrimp, quesadillas, Hawaiian steak teriyaki, salads, fried rice and hamburgers are just a start. Our favorites were the juicy, oniony philly, the tempura battered shrimp, and the fried Cajun shrimp. (Pss...The menu doesn’t mention the two different ways the shrimp is battered, so make sure you specify if you have a preference.)
The side orders were pretty fantastic as well, like the crunchy, sweet hush puppies, the ranch bacon fries, and the giant non-greasy onion rings. Less stellar were the fried okra and egg rolls.
While I probably had a low bar because of its name and location, American Feel and Wings definitely set me straight. The prices are decent, the food is fast and mostly tasty, there’s no need to tip, and the ambiance is not bad. If you’ve ever wondered what a Feel tastes like, go give it a try.
