Tommy’s may have the best lunch deal in town — if you know what to order. For $5.99, you not only get an entree, bread and a side, but you also get one of Tommy’s magical, unbelievably delicious baked goods included in your $5.99 price.

Each day, he features a different special, along with his usuals of chicken salad, chicken sandwich, hamburger and a daily meal. We came to Tommy’s on a Tuesday, which is baked spaghetti day. The special was shrimp fettuccini alfredo, and he let us try a breakfast biscuit as well.

We started with the spicy pimento cheese and sweet jalapeño dips, served with crackers. I could eat that jalapeño dip every day for every meal. The chicken sandwich was very good, and the chicken salad was fantastic. The two pasta dishes were just OK, and the burger was passable.

The show stealer here is the bakery. No matter what he’s offering for your complimentary dessert, it’s going to make your day. Our day featured cookies, but those doughnuts are the bomb. Weighing about half a pound each, the devil’s food, chocolate glazed, maple bacon, and raspberry or lemon filled doughnuts will knock you sideways with how good they are, especially if they are warm.

Then there’s the casseroles, from entrees like Mexican chicken and shepherd’s pie to sides like eggplant Parmesan and green bean casserole. If you have children in school near Thomaston Road, it’s an easy stop to get dinner, take it home to warm it up, and serve it like you made it. And don’t forget to get doughnuts for later — or to eat en route.

If you can plan ahead, you could even stop by for breakfast to-go. Tommy’s has egg and cheese plus bacon or sausage on his homemade biscuits, on croissants, on a bagel, or even on one of his doughnuts. Can you imagine what kind of day you could have if you start it with a doughnut wrapped around eggs and bacon?
