Get filling, cheap eats at Snack Shack
Where can you get a hamburger for 75 cents, a hot dog for about $1, and a pork chop sandwich for $3?
The only place I know of is the Snack Shack in Warner Robins, off Watson Boulevard near the Robins Air Force Base end of the road.
One doesn’t go to the Snack Shack for gourmet food; one goes to the Snack Shack for cheap sustenance. It’s a bit of a hole in the wall, with a walk up counter and a very plain adjoining seating area.
But it’s clean and friendly enough, keeping the overhead down and the prices to match.
For example, you can get a double patty hamburger for $1.40 and a triple for $1.90, but they are tiny, Krystal size buns and the meat patties don’t even cover the buns. Even the pickle slices are itty bitty. The fries for $1.15 are pretty basic but you can get nacho cheese or chili added for another 85 cents, or add both for a total of $2.55.
The fried chicken sandwich is just $2.75 or make it a plate with two sides for $5.75. Like the pork chop sandwich for $3, the chicken is not seasoned very much but you can always add cheese, pickles, bacon, jalapenos, chili, slaw or A1 sauce for another quarter.
The tastiest item we tried was the bacon-wrapped fried hot dog for $1.30. It’s fried like everything else, so it’s super crispy but not greasy.
The hot dog itself is $1.05 and you can add any combination of cheese, chili and slaw and it’s still at most $2.15.
My second favorite item was the slaw, which is chopped extremely fine and had a good flavor.
The fried wings come in all the usual flavors and are just $4 for six juicy pieces. Canned drinks are only 80 cents and a large tea is $1.25.
The Snack Shack isn’t trying to be anything other than a simple hot dog and burger joint and can be packed with base employees during the week. Try it at the early and late ends of their open hours during the week or go for lunch on Saturdays for something fun and different.
