If you are looking for a lunch spot in Milledgeville, I have the place for you. Tara's Tea Thyme is an adorable place with spectacular tea and lunch faire alike. It's located in a renovated house on North Jefferson Street in the historic district of the city.

With a variety of sandwiches and a quiche of the day to choose from, you really can't go wrong. The chicken salad sandwich ($8.95) was quite large and tasted sweet and fresh. My favorite was the chicken pesto panini ($8.95). It was grilled hot and cheesy.

If you are in the mood for a salad, the spinach pecan salad ($8.95) is a favorite of customers because of the homemade strawberry vinaigrette dressing. Yes, it really is homemade and it may soon be for sale in the restaurant.

The creamy tomato basil soup is offered everyday, and the soup of the day is always interesting (both$ 2.95 for a cup, $3.95 for a bowl). The tomato soup is sweet with chunks of tomato in it. I also had the crab chowder, which was thick but tasted too fishy for me.

I will say that cooking quiche is an art, and one that Tara's has just right. They offer a different quiche each day, plus a sour cream and chicken quiche as the daily standard (both $8.95).

We had an asparagus and cheese quiche one time and an artichoke quiche another. The plate comes out with a slice of quiche along with your choice of a cup of soup, side salad or creamy frozen fruit salad.

What Tara's is known for best, however, is its teas. From sweet iced tea to green tea, Tara's has perfected the art of tea brewing. They also have black teas, rooibos, oolong and Darjeeling. Within each kind of tea there are multiple different drinks and flavors. For example, under black tea is listed "Old Capital Spice," which is a spice tea with cinnamon and fruit notes. There is also an Irish Breakfast tea on the menu, which is suggested to go with milk. A three-cup pot of hot tea costs $3.50.

If you are planning a function or a party of some sort, keep in mind that Tara's has tea times. This is a meal with a tea party. The full afternoon tea ($18.95 per person) comes with soup and quiche, plus a selection of tea sandwiches, scones, lemon curd and sweets. The light afternoon tea ($14.95 per person) serves a little less with scones, lemon curd, clotted cream, and sweets. Scones and tea are only $6. And Tara's also hosts tea parties for young girls. Princess tea ($9.95 per person), as it is referred to, comes with scones, peanut butter and jelly finger sandwiches and dessert.

For lunch or just afternoon tea, stop by Tara's for a bite and a brew. You'll leave with a smile.
