Cocktails and Edgar Allan Poe, this interactive play at Macon beer garden will be ‘spooky’
A popular local beer garden is expanding, and to welcome the new expansion, the space will host an event that is “the first of its kind” in Middle Georgia.
The Society Garden plans to host the production, “Nevermore: Cocktails with Poe,” an interactive play inspired by the life and death of Edgar Allan Poe, in its new venue space. The new venue is next to the outdoor beer garden and beneath the existing building. It features a small stage, a pop-up bar and lounge seating, according to a release.
“The space itself is kinda part of it. It kind of comes to life. Just walking into that room, you’ll be walking back into time. We’re really excited for people to see it,” said Brad Evans, co-owner of The Society Garden.
The Garden will hold two seatings a night Oct. 24-26 at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets can be bought through Eventbrite, and the link can be found on the Society Garden’s website, Facebook page and Instagram.
Tickets are $55 per person and feature four themed craft cocktails or non-alcoholic “mocktails” served between acts. Guests are encouraged to wear themed outfits.
The first cocktail served will feature absinthe because it was a favorite drink of Poe, Brad said. Liliana’s, the food truck at The Garden, will be open, but it is not part of the Poe experience.
“The Poe production will be the premiere event in our new venue,” said Megan Evans, co-owner of The Society Garden, in the release. “It’s fancifully decorated in a chilling, dark, Victoriana style perfect for Edgar Allan Poe and Halloween.”
The interactive play, written by Macon local Paige Henson, will be performed by local actors and will be more spooky than scary. There will also be trivia and chances to win prizes, Brad said.
“Even in death, Edgar Allan Poe’s existence has been pretty spooky, so yes, it’s gonna be scary, but it’s not gonna be like watching a horror movie or anything,” Brad said.
The Society Garden decided to host the Edgar Allan Poe themed pop-up bar because they have had success with their Christmas pop-up bar in the past, Brad said.
“It’s been going really fast, and I’m excited to see people support it. We hope to do more stuff like it in the future,” he said.
