Start summer with party at the Big House

The Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House is kicking off summer on Saturday night with a Summer Solstice Party, featuring Freddy’s Finest accompanied by Copious Jones.

Based in Atlanta, Freddy’s Finest plays original music that “combines the groove of classic soul with the energy of modern funk with a heavy blues undertone,” according to their website, and also covers classics by the Beatles, Otis Redding and James Brown.

“They played here last year, and it was a great show,” said Big House executive director Robert Schneck. “We had a great turnout and are hoping for the same or better.”

Also based in Atlanta, Copious Jones’ sound can be described as “something akin to Dave Matthews meets Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead,” according to their website.

The show is family-friendly, and guests should bring chairs or blankets, Schneck said. Some concessions will be available and coolers also are allowed. The Big House museum will stay open until about 8 p.m. for tours, which are included with concert admission.
