Macon Pops opens latest season with outdoor concert

Macon Pops’ kicks off its fourth season tonight with a “Songs of the Summer” concert at Middle Georgia State University.

Featured music includes songs from the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Seals and Crofts, Kenny Chesney, Katy Perry and more. Kevin Spencer, of the Kristian Bush Band, and Abbey Henry, a Mercer University senior, will join the orchestra for the show. In a change for the Pops, the concert will be held outside, on the campus’ Wellness Center Lawn.

“We’ve always wanted to do an outdoor concert and the lawn behind the Wellness Center on the beautiful Middle Georgia State University campus will serve as the perfect setting for ‘Songs of Summer,’ ” Steve Moretti, co-founder and president of Macon Pops, said in a news release.

Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets but are asked not to bring pets. In the event of bad weather, the concert will take place inside the Wellness Center at the school.

Cost: $15, free for children under 5
