Kublai Khan with Jesus Piece, Malevolence, Hounds and Another Day Above Ground

Friday at Grant’s Lounge

The Macon Venue Project is doing its best to add some memories to Grant’s Lounge’s fabled “Wall of Fame.” These ain’t no stick-the-bottom-lip-out, solo-crazy, blues-based bands, though. The five-band lineup ranges from metal to hardcore to metalcore to whatever you call music that makes you slightly afraid that the lead singer might be having a prolonged aneurysm on stage. In short, this is music that’s gonna punch you in the gut and make you wanna dive into the pit. The best thing about Macon Venue Project is their dedication to keeping shows all ages so everyone can take part in the live music experience, so bring the kids. Just make sure they wear ear plugs. As any aging punk rocker will testify, hearing loss is no fun. 7 p.m. $12-$14.

A Night of Music and Comedy with Bo Walker and Gravey Jones

Friday at Loco’s Deli and Pub

Bo Walker is a well-rounded man. Bo knows math. Bo knows religion. Bo knows writing. Bo knows mattresses. Bo has the uncanny ability to find the oddest bits of digital ephemera in the deepest nether regions of the beast that is the World Wide Web. He also tinkers with writing and recording music. He’s going to present some of that tinkering live and uncensored at Loco’s, and there will be jokes, too. Speaking of jokes, Gravey Jones will be joining Bo this time around to play your favorite Christina Aguilera numbers. Is he serious? Is he being deliberately ironic? Who knows. The only certain thing is that there’s only one word to describe what Gravey does: sultry. If you’re in the first few rows, consider this your warning to wear something that isn’t easily stained. 8 p.m. Free.

Corner Concerts: Jared & the Mill with Edison

Saturday at Lanier Park

Folk yeah! Banjos! Beards! Accordions! Plaid shirts! Manly men who are also into deep feelings! This one has it all. Jared & the Mill say they hail from Phoenix, Arizona, but they’re really from Americana, good ol’ U.S. of A. According to the show’s organizers, they can also be described as “a guitar slingin’, California hip music band.” Totally rad, man. Even better, the show is in Lanier Park, which means you can enjoy some one-ness with nature as well. Edison, foot stompin’ representatives of the “modern folk freak scene,” open the show. 7:30 p.m. $10.

Bloodkin

Saturday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

Bloodkin describe themselves simply: “Athens, Ga., rock ‘n’ roll.” Onstage, they’re more dad-tastic than Wilco with their white shoes and bucket hats. But they’re one of the most seriously unappreciated bands out there beating the pavement. For more than 25 years, they’ve churned out an impressively solid discography of Southern-damaged rock ‘n’ roll, and in the process they’ve collaborated with folks as diverse as the Velvet Underground’s Moe Tucker and Widespread Panic. Several of Bloodkin’s songs remain in regular rotation in the latter band’s setlists. Seriously, don’t miss this one. 10 p.m. $5.

Living Room Concert Series with Justin Cutway and Aaron Irons

Wednesday at Cox Capitol Theatre

The Living Room Concert Series is a new take on the live music experience at the Cox Capitol Theatre. Instead of putting bands onstage and separating them from the audience, performances will take place in the spaces normally reserved for standing-room guests, creating an intimate atmosphere reminiscent of a house show. The goal is to put the music first and foremost to create connections between audience and artist. The series kicks off with a couple of local favorites, Aaron Irons and Justin Cutway. They’re two of the best songwriters that Macon has to offer and a great way to start the listening experience of this new series. Doors: 7 p.m./Show: 8 p.m. $5.
