Music at the Mount with Great Peacock
FRIDAY AT MOUNT DE SALES
ACADEMY
Music at the Mount returns for its second season as a unique concert experience at Mount de Sales Academy’s Zuver Center Amphitheater. The outdoor setting provides the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the cool early summer twilight, and the on-site dinner and drinks make for a great all-inclusive event. Great Peacock in featured in this Friday’s show. They’re a band out of Nashville that specializes in Wilco-style cosmic Americana, making music that comes from somewhere between a country campfire and the bright lights of the big city. 6:30 p.m. $15-$20.
Jimmy Hall’s Birthday Bash
SATURDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE
Jimmy Hall needs no introduction around these parts. As the singer for Mobile, Alabama’s Wet Willie, he released five records on Macon’s Capricorn Records. His incredibly soulful voice helped put the band on the top of the charts with singles like 1974’s “Keep On Smilin’.” Since then, he’s been nominated for Grammy Awards, had his songs recorded by the likes of Gregg Allman and the Marshall Tucker Band and served as bandleader for Hank Williams Jr. Along the way, he’s made plenty of friends, many of whom will show up to help celebrate his birthday, including another local legend, Tommy Talton, who opens the show. Doors: 7 p.m./Show 8 p.m. $22.
Gringo Star with Elroy Love
SATURDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM
Atlanta’s Gringo Star plays the kind of pop music that’s often reminiscent of a past era. Influences ranging from doo-wop to early, reverb-laden rock crooning make their way into the band’s sound, which maximizes the effect of simple, melodic arrangements. Their guitar and piano-driven rock lies somewhere between the soft psychedelia of 1960s icons like the Animals and the Kinks and the upbeat backbeat of Northern soul. Their live show is full of high-energy borderline madness with band members often rotating instruments from song to song. Macon sensual pop weirdos Elroy Love open. 10:30 p.m. $5.
Scott Stapp with Rockett Queen and Seldom
SUNDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE
Do you wanna get higher? Scott Stapp is breaking out of (his) own prison to take you with arms wide open to a place where blind men see. The Cox Capitol Theatre will be transformed into a place with golden streets for the “Voice of Creed,” who is touring in support of his new solo outing, “Proof of Life,” a record “driven by unbridled passions and haunted by ghosts that defy definition.” We’re hoping he also has a few minutes to squeeze his Florida Marlins fight song into the setlist. C’mon Scott, make us proud! Doors: 7 p.m./Show 8 p.m. $25-$28.
Keifer Sutherland with Austin Plaine
WEDNESDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE
You may know Keifer Sutherland from movies like “Stand By Me,” “The Lost Boys” or “A Time to Kill,” but did you also know that he’s a successful cattle rancher and competitive roper in the USTRC team roping circuit? Seriously. He’s even won a few awards to prove it. Somehow he also found time to start a record label, Ironworks, as well. After leaving the label in 2009 to figure out what he wanted to do next, Sutherland began penning songs. They were well-received, and eventually those few songs led to a country record. Sutherland is currently on tour to give them new life in front of audiences nationwide. Doors: 7 p.m./Show 8 p.m. $15-$20.
