Gig Guide
FRIDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE
At the young age of 22, Marc Broussard released his major-label debut, an album that prompted the L.A. Times to say, "the guy can really sing, with power, nuance and class. Anybody got a phone book? I'd listen to him hum a few pages." That record, as well as the few that followed, established Broussard as an authentic Southern soul singer and songwriting force. A decade later, he's still at it, but the circumstances have changed. Broussard's new album, "A Life Worth Living," shows the maturity of the songwriter, containing themes of home, family and "the minutiae of everyday life." Doors: 7 p.m./Show: 8 p.m. $15-$20.
Crown Larks

Their live show is part performance of the band's written material and part journey for the band itself. More acts to be announced. 9 p.m.

"Straight Outta Compton"
THURSDAY AT THE DOUGLASS THEATRE
"Straight Outta Compton" follows the career of N.W.A., the Compton, L.A.-based hip-hop group popular for pioneering gangsta rap. Biopics have been all the rage in Hollywood during the last decade or so, and this one already is considered one of the best of all-time, due in no small part to the fact that the creative consultants for the film included: Ice Cube (his son plays him in the film), Dr. Dre and Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Woods-Wright, with MC Ren and DJ Yella. To make things even better, you get to enjoy the new classic on the big screen at the historic Douglass Theatre. Admission includes a bag of popcorn and a drink, so go ahead and put this at the top of your to-do list. 7:30 p.m. $6.
