"Kids from ages 8 to 98" will enjoy the big band-era music that "In the Mood" is bringing to the City Auditorium tonight.

"We have people come and bring their grandchildren, and we have baby boomers come and bring their parents," said show creator and producer Bud Forrest. "People still love the songs; they are timeless. Whether it's 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,' 'Tuxedo Junction' or 'In the Mood' itself, they are a part of our history and culture."

Created in 1994, the touring show features the String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra playing the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Harry James, the Andrews Sisters and more, along with singers and dancers in period costumes who bring the music of the 1930 and '40s to life today.

"The audience experiences the different big bands and what it would have been like to see them live. It is as authentic as we can make it," Forrest said. "In World War II, when you took a kid from Georgia and sent him overseas, this music is what reminded him of home."
