BOX SEAT: Live legendary music in Macon

In case you haven't heard (and who hasn't?), Gregg Allman takes the stage at the Grand Opera House tonight and Saturday night at 8 p.m. I'll also note that the legendary performer has been quoted as saying that it's always good to play in Macon, where he's written many songs.

The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD series presents "Les Pecheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers)," Georges Bizet's opera of lust set in the Far East, which returns to the Met stage for the first time in 100 years. Hailed by the New York Times as the sleeper hit of the Met's season, this work was the first publicly staged opera by the French composer, who also composed "Carmen."

The live transmission at the Douglass Theatre begins at 12:55 p.m. Saturday.

Music by the "King of Pop" will be performed by the Macon Symphony Orchestra in "Windborne's Music of Michael Jackson," featuring songs from the artist's 40-year career including the "This Is It!" album. The "Music of Michael Jackson" also covers cuts from albums "Got to Be There" (Jackson 5), "Off The Wall," "Thriller," "Bad" and more. Always at the cutting edge of live performance, Windborne Productions travels the world to present music by legends such as Whitney Houston, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Eagles, the Doors, Queen, the Who, Rolling Stones, U2 and Journey.

The Saturday concert at the City Auditorium begins at 7:30 p.m.

Theatre Macon's Youth Actor's Company is presenting "A Chorus Line," the Marvin Hamlisch musical about Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. Winner of a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Musical, this show was at one time the longest-running production in Broadway history and the longest-running Broadway musical originally produced in the United States.

See "A Chorus Line" tonight and Saturday night at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House is presenting Diane Durrett, singer songwriter and producer, in an intimate living room style setting at the Big House. The Atlanta native has opened shows for Tina Turner and Faith Hill, and has sung with Sting, the Indigo Girls, Gregg Allman, Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones) and Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow's band).

Compared by Creative Loafing to everyone from Gladys Knight and Janis Joplin to Aretha Franklin and Melissa Etheridge by Creative Loafing, the soulful Southern songstress performs next at 6 p.m. Thursday.
