It's a new year, and you know what that means -- time to get healthy! Wild Organics Juice Company in Bonaire makes it easy to eat out and eat healthy.

The food offerings are pretty basic. The spinach salad has at least two cups of spinach leaves topped with cranberries, pecans and a tiny bit of goat cheese for $8.50. You can also add a generous amount of chicken or turkey for another dollar, or get the house salad for $6 or harvest salad with apples for $8.50. The vinaigrette is Perfect Pear's recipe, so you can't go wrong with that.

The wraps are pretty simple, too, with a choice of spinach, tomato or plain wrap around lettuce with veggies, turkey, chicken or chicken salad for $7.50. We weren't crazy about the "avocado" really being a mayo-based spread but otherwise they were satisfactory and healthy tasting. They were out of chicken salad when we visited, but the chicken salad on a croissant for $5.50 sounds like a deal.

The real reasons to come to Wild Organics are the juices and smoothies. We started with the "shooters," coconut water with a generous dose of essential oils.

The cayenne and ginger? Delicious, no problem. The "On Guard" doTerra essential oil? Didn't know you could ingest it, but I swallowed it with no trouble. But that oregano, a mild herb I've eaten all my life? Burned like a fire cracker. The upside was my lips plumped up glamorously.

The juices come in lovely combinations with fantastic names. It's all fresh fruit, so it took a little while to get all of our order but it's worth the wait. With names like Venetian Sunrise, Ruby Slipper, Liquid Sunshine and Georgia Juice, these concoctions mix variations of apple, carrot, pineapple, kale, red cabbage and pear juices with wheatgrass, ginger, lemon, cucumber and other flavors.

Twelve-ounce servings are $5.99 and 16-ounce servings are $7.99. Organic superfoods such as turmeric, coconut, spirulina, chlorella, chia, flax and goji can be added for 50 cents each.

The smoothies were by far our favorite. With bases like almond, soy or coconut milk, you can make your own or choose a predesigned blend for $5.50 for 12 ounces or $6.95 for 16 ounces.

We thought the PB&J was the best, made with strawberries, bananas, honey and either chocolate or regular PB2 local peanut butter powder. Our second favorite was the Greek Calypso with strawberries, Greek yogurt and granola, followed by the Morning Glory with mango and pineapple.

With all the new fast food choices in this area, it's nice to have a healthy choice for a quick bite with a friend. The atmosphere is comfortable, the service is personable, and the prices are reasonable.
