Vinylmania

FRIDAY AT FRESH PRODUCE RECORDS

Do you yearn for yesteryear? For a time void of control records and laptops? For just the simple, warm scratch and pop of needle grinding through waxy grooves? When nary a digital glitch could be heard? When there truly were merely two turntables and a microphone? You're in luck! Fresh Produce Records presents Vinylmania, where nearly a dozen DJs, including B3, DJ Uh-Oh and Shawty Slim, will be ripping vinyl straight from the stacks and mixing the old fashioned way. It's the perfect way to ring in your new year right and ease the headache caused by that last glass of champagne the night before -- or perhaps to keep the party going for another night. 7 p.m. $5.

Skeeterz

FRIDAY AT BILLY'S CLUBHOUSE

Leave your Deep Woods Off at home, because these Skeeterz don't bite. Instead, they're gonna infect you with the sweet, sweet sounds of Southern and classic rock. And if that doesn't tickle your pickle, the Billy's bartenders will be doling out $3 shots all night long. New Year's resolutions are for the birds, so drink up. 10 p.m.

Those Cats

SATURDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM

Whose cats, Costello? Playing with the birds? Last time I checked the Abbott household, there were no animals. They don't stand a chance with all those baseball players running around. Oh, I see. You're talking about Those Cats, the band from Statesboro that's "fresh, funky and soulful" yet "energetic and smooth," playing at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom on Saturday night. I just might bring the whole team downtown for that. 10 p.m. $5.

Southern Outlaws

SATURDAY AT BILLY'S CLUBHOUSE

Though their name might bring to mind images of a grizzled biker gang, the Southern Outlaws are just a group of guys who like to get together and play covers of rock 'n' roll songs, ranging from Johnny Cash to Chuck Berry. They're favorites around these parts, so it's guaranteed that Billy's will be crowded with Macon's finest getting down and shaking a leg with the gang. 10 p.m.

Gaslight Street

THURSDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM

Gaslight Street was just voted Charleston, South Carolina's "Blues Band of the Year" by the venerable Charleston City Paper, which is no small feat in a Southern city with a growing music scene. That paper also describes the band's latest output, "Heavy Wind," as something that sounds "like a lost 1970s classic." Expect something soulful and bluesy with lots of guitar and organ-led song-writing. And if you need another reason to postpone those resolutions, there's bottomless beer available for the low, low price of eight bucks. 10 p.m. $5.
