Failing Acts of Society
John Berry

FRIDAY AT THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE

John Berry is back in Macon at the Grand Opera House for what has become an annual holiday favorite. Berry, who is know for a strong string of hits, including "Your Love Amazes Me," "Standing on the Edge of Goodbye" and "I Think About It All the Time," is perhaps best known for his Christmas tour, which began 17 years ago after the release of his enormously successful "O Holy Night" album and its hit, eponymous title track. According to Berry, the annual event is close to his heart, allowing him to share his faith and "his walk with Christ, (where) his calling has been to share God's love with his audience." 7:30 p.m. $37.

"Ghosts of Rock"

FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE

It's 1983, and the Ghosts of Rock are so bored that they're looking down from their lonely perch worried about the state of affairs in the music industry. In short, rock 'n' roll is dying, man, and the only way to save it is an allegorical plot based on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." A soulless, faltering boy band called the Bellbottoms is visited by the likes of Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and a yet-to-be-revealed member of Kiss to scare the dickens out of the young lads in hopes that they'll trade in their key-tars for gee-tars, or at the very least listen to some Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry. Will it work? There's probably a spoiler alert in there if you've read your classic Christmas literature, but the only way to know for sure is to be there to find out. Doors: 6 p.m./Show: 7 p.m. $19-$25.

Mighty with Good Night Alive, Wrenn and Alec Stanley

SATURDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM

Mighty is the brainchild of recent Atlanta transplant (from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) youngun' (he's barely in his 20s) Angelo Fiaretti, a kid that writes great songs with heavy hooks in the same vein as another great Atlanta band, Manchester Orchestra. This bill is filled out with local heroes Good Night Alive and the return of hometown boy Alec Stanley and rounded out with Athens singer/songwriter Wrenn for what will undoubtedly be one of the best shows of the month. 10 p.m. $5.

Moncrief and Friends

SATURDAY AT BILLY'S CLUBHOUSE

Trying to keep track of Matt Moncreif's music projects is a glorious exercise in futility. He's the leader of Stoopgrass. He was a long-time member of both Jubee and the Morning After and Boot Hill. He probably played your birthday party or your wedding or was in the band the last time you went out. The exact lineup of the "Friends" portion of this group has been kept a secret, but it's sure to be a good one. 10 p.m.

Failing Acts of Society and the Story Continues

SATURDAY AT FRESH PRODUCE RECORDS

Pop punk meets Christmas for this special performance by the Story Continues and Failing Acts of Society, two of Macon's youngest bands out pounding the pavement these days. It's nice to see ambitious, talented young folks out there making music and giving hope to the future of Macon's music scene, so get out there and support it. It'll be a high-energy show that's sure to shock you into the Christmas spirit. 7 p.m. $3.
