Macon's community theaters are offering Christmas productions the whole family will enjoy this weekend.

Theater Macon's fourth annual "Christmas Cabaret" has grown to include nine performers singing both sacred and secular Christmas favorites, said Bryson Holloway, one of the show's producers.

"This year, we have taken family favorites and have changed the arrangements to make them new and interesting and unique," he said. "The audience will get to hear Christmas music from some of the best talent in Middle Georgia."

The show runs about an hour and 45 minutes with no intermission, and a 50/50 raffle will be held to benefit a different charity each night.

Macon Little Theatre, in conjunction with the Academy of the Performing Arts, is bringing " 'Twas the Night Before Christmas" to the stage.

The play follows a first-year teacher who has to produce a school Christmas show with a cast that comes from after-school detention class.

"It's really about him coming to grips with being a teacher and the kids coming together as an ensemble in the true spirit of Christmas," said Sylvia Haynie, who is co-directing with Laura Voss. "It's very appealing to all ages; even really young people will enjoy it."

Performers from the Academy of the Performing Arts will be singing Christmas carols for about 30 minutes before the show as people take their seats, and the show lasts a little more than an hour with one intermission.

For more information about these performances, see their listings on this page under Friday, Dec. 18.
