Gig Guide
FRIDAY AT WESLEYAN COLLEGE'S PIERCE CHAPEL
If you're looking for something unique and extraordinary to do this Friday, look no further. Robin Bullock and Steve Baughman are monsters in the world of acoustic guitar and Celtic music. While the presence of Druids cannot be guaranteed, masterful guitar work from this dynamic duo can. Recording as a duo, these guys earned an Editor's pick in 2003 from Acoustic Guitar magazine for their CD, "Celtic Guitar Summit." As a solo artist, Robin Bullock's playing has been described by Guitar Player Magazine simply as "breathtaking." Not to be outdone, Steve Baughman has published several guitar method books for the legendary publisher Mel Bay when he's not playing all over the world. In short, a couple of world-class guitar players will be performing in Wesleyan's beautiful Pierce Chapel. Be there or be square. 7:30 p.m. $20 general admission, $10 students.
Floco Torres Focus Week Session
FRIDAY AT FRESH PRODUCE RECORDS
Floco Torres may just be the hardest working man in Macon's music business. In the past year, he has toured up and down the East Coast, put together a supergroup to close out this year's Bragg Jam (something that was regarded by many as the highlight of the day), and released a ridiculous amount of original music. His live performances are always well worth witnessing, but this one is special. In addition to performing two of his releases -- #DreamBoard and (V)INSANITY -- in full with a live band, he will be discussing the creative process associated with both releases as part of the performance. 9 p.m. All ages. $5.
Savannah Metal Invasion
FRIDAY AT THE BACK PORCH LOUNGE
Savannah has produced some fantastic metal bands in recent years, including but not limited to Baroness (who has a new record) and Black Tusk. While these juggernauts will not be gracing the stage at the Back Porch Lounge, Savannah's own Nowhere Child will be joined by Wrath of a Dying Breed, Fishtooth, the Hoodrats and From the Gun. Metal shows don't happen enough in these parts, so if you're looking for an evening of heavy music at one of Macon's most interesting bars, this is your ticket. 10 p.m.
Grassland String Band
FRIDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM
Athens favorites the Grassland String Band brings their self-described "Amerigrass" -- a soulful mix of Americana, bluegrass, folk, jazz, pop, love, spirit and gumbo -- to the Hummingbird. The band, made up of veterans of the city's revered music scene, plays music that crosses generations and genres and is best experienced in a live setting. 10 p.m. $5.
Big K.R.I.T with BJ The Chicago Kid, Delorean and Scotty ATL
SATURDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE
This show is bound to be one of the biggest in Macon this year. Since signing to the legendary Def Jam label back in 2010, Big K.R.I.T. has continued to show the world that he is easily one of the best and hardest working rappers out there. Better yet, he is rooted firmly in the Southern brand of hip-hop (he's from Mississippi) that emphasizes content and creativity over empty braggadocio. Even better, Big K.R.I.T. is bringing a slew of talent to open the show. If you dig hip-hop and you miss this show, then you don't dig hip-hop enough. Doors: 8 p.m./Show: 9 p.m. $22.
