Malcolm Tent
Malcolm Tent
Jesus Jim, Din and Gurglelina

FRIDAY AT FRESH PRODUCE RECORDS

Jesus Jim is most definitely from New York. Specifically, they're lost there in a backstage labyrinth of space and time, desperately trying to get to a Max's Kansas City gig in 1975. They only have a four-song demo out there in the world, but it's full of Voidoid spit, New York Dolls snarl and Lou Reed-minus-the-Velvets dirt. Think three-chord rock 'n' roll with note-y, overdriven guitar hooks propelled by trash can drums and desperately yelping vocals. They'll be joined by Atlanta experimentalists Din (for fans of bands like Women and Viet Cong) and Macon's own Gurglelina (for fans of mango chutney bubble baths). 9 p.m. Free.

Ray Wylie Hubbard with Aaron Lee Tasjan

SATURDAY AT COX CAPITOL THEATRE

Ray Wylie Hubbard had his first big breakthrough in 1973 when he penned the tune "Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother," made popular by Jerry Jeff Walker's rowdy recording of the song in 1973. More recently, he's experiencing a late-career resurgence, led by his 2012 album "The Grifter's Hymnal," which earned him accolades as a songwriter and led him to his first appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman" about which he says, "I didn't want to peak too soon." He'll be joined by Aaron Lee Tasjan, a songwriter who has obviously learned his share of lessons from folks like Wylie and his ilk. "Florida Man," the lead single off his newest record, "In the Blazes," digs deep into the psychology of the anomaly that is Florida, expertly examining all its quirks and juxtapositions the way only a master songwriter can. Doors: 7 p.m./Show: 8 p.m. $25-$280.

Malcolm Tent, Taped Fist, Another Day Above Ground, Shehehe

SATURDAY AT FRESH PRODUCE RECORDS

Punk rock is alive and well in Macon. For this show, Malcolm Tent is coming back through town, peddling his acoustic punk rock wares. It"s highly offensive and entertaining in a way that would make Mojo Nixon and Jello Biafra very proud. Macon"s own punks Taped Fist (fresh off their recent show opening for the Queers) and hardcore outfit Another Day Above Ground will be opening, along with a special appearance by Athens' Shehehe. 9 p.m. Free.

McDuffie Student Chamber Ensemble

SUNDAY AT BELL HOUSE SALON

As a special institute within Mercer Univeristy's Townsend School of Music, the McDuffie Center for Strings provides opportunities for 26 string players to interact and record with some of the world's finest orchestras, conductors and string ensembles, as well as participate in a business-oriented curriculum, which helps guarantee success as an entrepreneurial musician. Their home base is the newly-renovated Bell House, which is also famous as being the house on the cover of the Allman Brothers Band's first, eponymous release. In short, this is a concert from Macon's most talented musicians in one of the city's most beautiful settings. Seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis. 3 p.m. Free.

Sister Hazel

THURSDAY AT COX CAPITOL THEATRE

Gainesville, Florida's Sister Hazel sold nearly 30,000 copies of their second record on independent label Croakin' Poets, prompting a re-release of the album on major label Universal. After that move, their hits "All for You" and "Champagne High" became staples of late 1990s alt-rock radio, but the band didn't stop there. They steadily released well-received records throughout the 2000s, which showcased their folk and Southern music-influenced style, and they're prepping for another new release, "Lighter in the Dark" in early 2016. Doors: 7 p.m./Show: 8 p.m. $25-$400.
